The Polish Covenant of Mayors Dialogue Platform was launched on the 12th of September 2011 during the high-profile conference entitled “Development of innovative energy – building energy security of cities and municipalities”, which was organised in Bielsko-Biała and received honorary patronage of Polish Presidency in the EU Council and of the European Parliament.

Its aim was to outline the vision of the energy future of our cities. The event gathered about 300 participants including: members of European and Polish Parliament, representatives of Polish ministries, local authorities from all over the country (including Covenant signatories), energy companies, universities, NGOs and media.

Objectives of the Polish Covenant of Mayors Dialogue Platform

  • Helping Polish cities and municipalities to fulfill their commitments resulting from signing the Covenant of Mayors;
  • Improving communication and exchange of know-how and experience among Polish local authorities willing to:
    • raise their capacity in the field of energy planning and management,
    • raise efficiency of their actions aiming at reaching the Covenant of Mayors objectives;
  • Improving communication and exchange of know-how and experience between Polish local authorities and key stakeholders that may support them in their efforts to reach the Covenant of Mayors objectives (e.g. ministries, national and regional energy agencies, regional authorities, universities and research centres, NGOs, private companies);
  • Supporting synergy between activities carried out by Polish local authorities and their key stakeholders;
  • Proposing solutions that will strengthen national authorities’ support to activities for climate protection and energy management implemented at local level;
  • Assessing the status of the Covenant of Mayors implementation in Poland and development and implementation of the Polish Covenant Action Plan.

  • Local authorities from all over the country (both actual and potential signatories of the Covenant of Mayors);
  • Covenant Coordinators and Supporters
  • Regional energy and development agencies
  • NGOs
  • Foundations
  • Ministries
  • Regional authorities
  • Universities and research centres
  • Media
  • Companies
  • Embassies

The Polish Covenant of Mayors Dialogue Platform will meet at least twice a year. During the rest of the time communication will be maintained via our on-line discussion list and the website. The first platform meeting along with the workshop for local authorities took place on the 10th of February 2012 in Cracow.
