Meeting with CoM Club Sweden

On the 21st of February, elected representatives from nine Swedish cities met within the framework of Covenant of Mayors Club Sweden, for a day of networking and inspiration with special focus on alliances with local businesses.

Nina Ekelund, programme director of the Haga Initiative presented what positive effects (such as profits and marketability) companies that are actively working to reduce their emissions can benefit from.

Nina Ekelund’s presentation was followed by a workshop with brainstorming about future activities of the club. Some conclusions of the workshop were to write a joint debate article on the importance of the work of cities and municipalities, explore which points of common interests we have with other European clubs, and possible ways to cooperate.

In the afternoon a visit was organised to the energy company Fortum at Värtaverket, a district heating plant. Sustainability manager Ulf Wikström gave a historical background to what the evolution of district heating has meant for Stockholm, how the percentage of renewables increase and future challenges. Charlotta Hedvik from the City of Stockholm gave an introduction to Klimatpakten, Stockholms local alliance for business working with climate issues.
